When Will I Get Married? What Your Kundali Actually Says

A Vedic birth chart has twelve houses, and the 7th house is the home of marriage and partnership. When a jyotishi — human or AI — reads marriage timing, the analysis starts there and fans out:
The 7th house and its lord. Which sign sits in the 7th, which planet rules it, where that ruler is placed, and how strong it is. A well-placed 7th lord tends toward smooth, timely marriage themes; a pressured one changes the texture and often the timing.
The karakas. Classical texts treat Venus as the karaka — the natural significator — of marriage and spouse, with Jupiter carrying special weight in a woman's chart. Their condition colours the whole topic.
Planets sitting in or aspecting the 7th. A house is shaped by its tenants and its visitors. Jupiter's aspect is traditionally read as a blessing here; Saturn's, as a slowing hand — more on that below.
None of this requires you to do anything except know your accurate birth details. The chart does the rest — which is exactly why anyone who offers to predict your marriage from your name alone, or your sun sign, is entertaining you, not reading you.
The part that answers "when": dashas
Here's the piece most people have never had explained. Vedic astrology doesn't just describe your chart — it runs a clock over it. The Vimshottari dasha system divides your life into planetary periods (mahadashas) and sub-periods (antardashas), each ruled by a planet whose themes come forward during its time.
Marriage timing, classically, is read where the clock and the chart agree: the periods of the 7th lord, of Venus (or Jupiter), or of planets placed in the 7th house are the windows when marriage moves from idea to event. Supporting transits — most famously Jupiter's slow passage over sensitive points of your chart — are read as the sky's cooperation with those windows.
So the honest form of the answer is not "you will marry on 14 February 2028." It's: "your chart's marriage windows open here, here, and here — and this one is the strongest." A window might be eighteen months wide. Within it, effort, family, and your own choices do what they have always done. That's not astrology hedging; that's what the system is actually designed to produce. Timing, not destiny-on-a-date.
Why is my marriage delayed?
The second-most asked version of this question, and the one carrying the most quiet pain. A few chart patterns come up again and again:
Saturn's involvement with the 7th. Saturn in the 7th, aspecting the 7th, or ruling it doesn't say no marriage — it says later, slower, and often more deliberate. Charts with strong Saturn influence on marriage frequently marry past the family's preferred schedule and into notably stable partnerships. "Late" and "wrong" are different words.

A quiet 7th lord. When the 7th lord sits weak, combust, or in difficult houses, marriage themes take more activation energy — they tend to move when the right dasha arrives, not before.
And one non-astrological cause worth naming: wrong birth time. The houses shift roughly every two hours. A chart cast with "sometime in the morning" can show a delayed 7th house that your real chart doesn't have. Before accepting any heavy reading about your marriage, it's worth confirming your birth time from a hospital slip or the family's janm patri.
What to actually do with a marriage window
This is where astrology becomes useful rather than just interesting. If your chart says a strong window opens next year, tradition's advice is refreshingly practical: that's when conversations, introductions, and rishta efforts are worth their fullest energy. A window is a season for planting — not a guarantee of harvest, but the right time to try.

The Vedic system speaks in periods and probabilities; anyone selling you a date is selling you, not reading your chart.
